Trans Alpine

Left Christchurch on a free shuttle to the train station (everything is so easy here). Boarded the trans alpine at 8am. The Scenery was absolutely stunning. They have an open carriage where you can take photos from in the open air. It was so beautiful every bend in the track led to a view of a higher peak, lakes/rivers formed from glaciers or some other breathtaking scenery, although Noni did hear two Americans say how it all looked the same. They should have been shot in my opinion! It was an amazing way to travel to the dump that is Greymouth. We did the brewery tour on arrival (it’s about the only thing you can down in this one horse town). Montheiths Golden is my favourite of all the Montheiths beers. Noni made herself a new friend in the shape of Dennis the local engineer from the local mines. He told her she was quite hot. I almost fell off my chair laughing. That night we had a lovely indian meal and a few more pints but were disappointed to find that everything in Greymouth shuts at 10.30 on Sunday nights, including the pubs!! Mad. Even in Alice Springs you can get a pint past 10.30pm. I reconfirmed my heli hike for the following morning at fox glacier.
