Tongariro crossing

Labelled as New Zealands best one day walk. It should be renamed NZ’s toughest one day walk. It’s 18.5km of walking up and down volcanos etc. It was extremely tough going. The second section the devil’s staircase is hell. I had to stop every 2 minutes to catch my breath and stop my legs from going to jelly. We walked around Mount Doom (Mt Ngauruhoe) and up a bit of mt Tongariro. Saw lots of craters, the emerald lakes, the blue lake. A stunning view of lake Taupo in the distance. It was a glorious day. Lots of sun cream needed. I got by eating 5 bananas and several chocolate bars and two litres of water. I never want to see a banana again. My legs are fecked and me feet are sore but I did it. woohoo. Looking forward to seeing my photos on PC, excited about one or two of them.

    Hi Lou,

Well done, don’t know how you did it though!!!! 18.5km is half way to Dublin from Navan, it’s hard enough when driving.
